PUBLIC HEALTH TO BUILD COMMUNITY RESILIANCE

FROM EMPERICAL EVIDENCE TO INTERVENTIONS

Peace is not the absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition of benevolence, confidence, justice.
BARUCH SPINOZA

Health care can contribute to stability and community resilience. Providing health care has proved to be one of the surest ways to win support for whoever is providing it (and the political agenda they represent.) By providing health care that responds to local needs and perceptions of wellbeing, Artis Health and Resilience cultivates community support which can then be mobilised to support positive social change.

Artis Health and Resilience researches the needs and traditions of communities in order to create approaches that combine the most sophisticated international medical expertise with local knowledge and values, earning the respect of the community and making healthcare gains sustainable. AHR’s fellows include experts in internal medicine, surgery, neuroanatomy, psychology; the impact of violence on inflammation, the endocrine system and the children of traumatized parents; communicable and non-communicable disease in conflict zones; and prenatal, maternal and children’s health care.
