Terrorism

Terrorism in the 21st century is not as frequently the result of state sponsorship as it was throughout the Cold War during the latter half of the 20th century. Insidious networks that include everyone from the stereotypical radical to the unassuming playboy are what leaders face today. ARTIS researchers and consultants consider terrorism prevention their number one goal. In contrast to deterrence and tactical prevention approaches that target curtailing the behavior of groups through defensive force, we devote our resources to understanding the individual and learning what motivates a person to commit acts of violence. We know that at the end of day, leaders will ultimately win the fight against terrorism by compelling, not coercing, individuals to not use violence as a means for addressing their grievances. Our goal is to ensure that they can achieve this goal one community at a time.
